Jeju 3-Day Itinerary 2026: Complete First-Timer's Plan (East, South, West)
Jeju is bigger than first-timers expect. The island is 73km east-to-west and 41km north-to-south, with attractions scattered along all four coasts. Trying to see "Jeju" without a plan typically results in spending half your trip in the rental car. This itinerary divides the island into three days — East, South, and West — each anchored to a different base hotel and route. It's the most efficient way to cover Jeju in 3 days, with optional stretches if you have a 4th or 5th.

3-Day Overview & Logic
Jeju's main attractions are spread along three coasts — none of them are inland. The most efficient pattern is to do them as three separate day-loops rather than try to circle the entire island. Recommendations:
- Day 1 — East: Seongsan Ilchulbong (UNESCO sunrise peak), Yongnuni Oreum, Hamdeok Beach, Manjanggul Cave.
- Day 2 — South: Cheonjiyeon Falls, Cheonjeyeon Falls, Jeongbang Falls, Soesokkak, optional Hallasan via Seongpanak.
- Day 3 — West: Hyeopjae Beach, Aewol coastal cafes, Saebyeol Oreum, Hallim Park.
Base your hotel: Jeju City (north) gives you access to all three coasts within 1 hour. Seogwipo (south) shaves 30 min off Day 2 if you make it your overnight base.
Day 1: East Jeju (Seongsan + Oreum + Beaches)
- 5:30 AM — Seongsan Ilchulbong sunrise hike (45-min hike, 30-min sunrise). UNESCO World Heritage. Yes it's early. Yes it's worth it.
- 7:30 AM — Breakfast at a Seongsan cafe (Cafe Wabuui or similar).
- 9:00 AM — Yongnuni Oreum (45 min easy hike, panorama).
- 11:00 AM — Manjanggul Lava Tube (UNESCO; 1 hr underground walk).
- 12:30 PM — Lunch at Hamdeok Beach (haenyeo-run abalone porridge).
- 2:00 PM — Hamdeok Beach swim or walk.
- 4:00 PM — Bijarim Forest (1,000-year-old nutmeg trees, easy walk).
- 7:00 PM — Dinner: black pork at Black Pork Street (Jeju City).
Distance covered: ~80km loop. Driving time: ~3 hours total.
Day 2: South Jeju (Waterfalls + Hallasan)
- 8:00 AM — Cheonjeyeon Falls (the three-tier one, in Jungmun).
- 10:00 AM — Jeongbang Falls (the falls that drop into the sea).
- 11:30 AM — Lunch at Seogwipo Olle Market (galchi-jorim or hairtail kimbap).
- 1:00 PM — Soesokkak — kayak or transparent boat through the emerald estuary.
- 3:30 PM — Optional: Hallasan via Yeongsil Course (4-hour round trip, no permit). Or skip Hallasan and visit O'Sulloc Tea Museum + Innisfree Jeju House.
- 7:00 PM — Cheonjiyeon Falls (lit at dusk — last entry 8:30pm).
- 8:30 PM — Dinner in Seogwipo (galchi grilled, full-fish style).
Distance covered: ~50km loop. Driving time: ~2 hours.
Day 3: West Jeju (Aewol Coast + Hyeopjae)
- 9:00 AM — Saebyeol Oreum hike (30-min easy, panorama of central Jeju). The same cone the Jeju Fire Festival burns in March.
- 11:00 AM — Hallim Park (subtropical botanical garden + Hyeopjae caves).
- 12:30 PM — Lunch at an Aewol coastal cafe with ocean view.
- 2:00 PM — Hyeopjae Beach (Korea's most beautiful, with Biyangdo Island offshore).
- 4:00 PM — Aewol cafe crawl (3–4 cafes, 30 min each).
- 6:30 PM — Iho Tewoo Beach for sunset (the famous horse-shaped lighthouses).
- 8:00 PM — Dinner: Dongmun Market night food court (graze across 5–6 stalls).
Distance covered: ~70km loop. Driving time: ~2.5 hours.
Where to Stay (3 Options)
Three reasonable bases for a 3-day Jeju trip:
| Base | Pro | Con |
|---|---|---|
| Jeju City (north) | Closest to airport. Equal access to all 3 days. | Furthest from south coast. |
| Seogwipo (south) | Walking distance to Day 2 attractions. | 1+ hr to east and west days. |
| Two-hotel split | Move from Jeju City → Seogwipo → Aewol. | More logistics, less luggage flexibility. |
For most first-timers we recommend Jeju City for all 3 nights — simpler, you avoid hotel hopping, and the airport return on Day 3 is easy.

Practical Tips: Driving, Timing, Food
- Rent a car. Jeju is the only Korean trip where rental car is genuinely better than public transit. ₩50,000–80,000/day. International license required.
- Sunrise on Day 1. Seongsan Ilchulbong sunrise is the trip highlight. Don't skip.
- Book Hallasan permit. If you want to summit, book Seongpanak/Gwanumsa permits 1 month ahead at visithalla.jeju.go.kr.
- Mandarin season is winter. Premium Jeju mandarins (Hallabong, Cheonhyehyang) are December–March. Outside that window the airport gift shops sell summer-stored fruit at premium prices.
- Cash + T-money. Jeju buses take T-money; restaurants take cards. Markets are mixed.
- Check weather. Jeju gets typhoons July–September. Have a rainy-day backup plan (museums, indoor cafes, Manjanggul Cave).
If You Have 4 or 5 Days
- +1 day for Hallasan summit hike — full day, requires permit.
- +1 day for Udo Island ferry — small island off Seongsan, half-day to full-day.
- +1 day for slowing down — re-do a beach or cafe you loved.
FAQ
Is 3 days enough for Jeju?
Yes for the highlights. 4–5 days is better for the summit hike, Udo, and not feeling rushed.
Do I need a rental car?
Strongly recommended. Public buses cover everything but are 2–3x slower. International driving permit required for foreigners.
What's the best season?
April (cherry blossoms), May–June (clear weather), October (autumn). July–August is hot and stormy. December–February is cold but mandarin season.
Can I do this itinerary without driving?
Yes via the Jeju Bus Tour (Klook offers it as a package) or with private day tours for each of the three days. Both add cost but avoid renting.
Where to fly into?
Jeju International Airport (CJU). 1 hour from Seoul (Gimpo or Incheon), with 100+ daily flights. From Busan it's 50 min.
