This is one of Seoul's best areas for bibimbap (mixed rice bowl), doenjang jjigae (fermented soybean stew), and seasonal temple food. The main pedestrian strip has become tourist-heavy in recent years, but the side alleys and upper floors of Ssamzigil hold well-priced local spots that rarely appear on international lists. ## Main street vs. the side alleys The most-photographed food is along Insadong-gil itself — hotteok, red bean pastries, matcha soft-serve. For sit-down meals, the alleys east of the main street near Nakwon Market are quieter and cheaper.
