Where to Stay in Gwangju — Art & Food Capital (2026)
Gwangju is the capital of Jeollanam-do and Korea's fifth-largest city, but most international visitors skip it entirely — which is precisely what makes it worth visiting. The city is consistently cited by Koreans as having the best food in the country: the Jeolla cuisine tradition (rich, fermented, abundant side dishes) is most concentrated here, and Yangdong Market remains one of the few traditional markets in Korea where you'll find a half-dozen grandmothers making the real thing.
