Seoul Airport to City — Every Option Explained (2026)

Korea Tips··By Ryan Lee

You've just landed at Incheon International Airport (ICN), one of the best airports in the world. Now you need to get to Seoul — which is about 60 km west. The good news: Korea's airport transport is cheap, fast, and foreigner-friendly. The bad news: there are enough options to cause decision paralysis when you're jet-lagged at 6 AM.

Here's exactly what to do, in order of what most travelers should pick.

All Options at a Glance

Option Time to Seoul Price Best For
AREX Express 43 min to Seoul Station ₩9,500 (~$7) Solo travelers, budget-conscious
AREX All-Stop 58 min to Seoul Station ₩4,750 (~$3.50) Extreme budget (T-money works)
Airport Limousine Bus 60–90 min to major areas ₩15,000–17,000 (~$11–13) Direct to your hotel area
Regular Taxi 60–90 min ₩65,000–80,000 (~$48–59) Groups of 3–4 splitting the fare
International Taxi 60–90 min ₩80,000–100,000 (~$59–74) English-speaking driver needed
Private Transfer 60–90 min ₩70,000–120,000 (fixed) Late arrivals, families, no stress

AREX Express Train — The Best Option for Most People

The Airport Railroad Express (AREX) is a dedicated train that runs non-stop from Incheon Airport Terminal 1 to Seoul Station in exactly 43 minutes. It's clean, has luggage racks, free WiFi, and runs every 30–40 minutes from roughly 6:00 AM to 10:50 PM.

From Seoul Station, you can transfer to subway Lines 1, 4, or the KTX. Most hotels in Seoul are within 20 minutes of Seoul Station by subway.

How to buy tickets: At the AREX ticket counter in the arrivals hall (B1 level), or on Klook for a small discount. You can also tap your T-money card on the All-Stop train (but NOT the Express — that requires a reserved seat).

Pro tip: If you arrive at Terminal 2 (Korean Air, Delta, Air France, KLM), the AREX stops there first. You don't need to shuttle to Terminal 1.

Airport Limousine Bus — Door-to-Door Convenience

If your hotel is in Myeongdong, Hongdae, Gangnam, Itaewon, or Dongdaemun, an airport bus might drop you closer than the AREX would. Routes run to most major Seoul neighbourhoods, with stops near popular hotels.

Buses depart every 15–30 minutes from the curb outside arrivals. Look for the bus number matching your destination area — the information desk can point you to the right stop. Journey time is 60–90 minutes depending on traffic (longer during rush hour, 7–9 AM and 5–8 PM).

Payment: Cash (₩ only), T-money card, or credit card at the ticket kiosk. Some routes accept Klook vouchers.

Downside: You're at the mercy of Seoul traffic. The AREX takes the same time regardless. If you arrive during rush hour, take the train.

Taxi — Only Worth It for Groups

A regular taxi from Incheon Airport to central Seoul costs ₩65,000–80,000 including tolls. That's steep for one person, but split four ways it's ₩16,000–20,000 each — comparable to the bus and far more convenient.

The taxi queue is well-organized (follow signs to the taxi stand). All taxis are metered. You don't need to negotiate. International taxis (with English-speaking drivers) cost about 20% more and can be arranged at the international taxi counter inside arrivals.

Warning: Never accept a ride from someone approaching you inside the terminal offering "taxi." Always use the official taxi queue outside.

Private Transfer — Pre-Booked, Fixed Price

If you're arriving late at night (after 11 PM when AREX stops), traveling with young kids, or simply want zero hassle — a pre-booked private transfer is the way to go. You book online, a driver meets you at arrivals with a sign, and takes you directly to your hotel.

Prices are fixed (no meter, no surprises), typically ₩70,000–120,000 depending on vehicle type and distance. You can book sedan or van size depending on group/luggage needs.

What to Do at the Airport Before You Leave

Before you rush to the train, grab these three things at Incheon Airport arrivals:

  1. SIM Card or eSIM — Pick up at the telecom counters (KT, SKT, LG U+) in the arrivals hall, or pre-order through Klook for a faster pickup. An eSIM is even faster — activate it during your flight. See our SIM card & WiFi guide for details.
  2. T-money Card — Buy one at the GS25 or CU convenience store in arrivals (₩4,000 for the card, then load cash onto it). This is your transit card for subways, buses, taxis, and convenience store purchases across Korea. Or pre-order a preloaded version through Klook.
  3. Cash — Withdraw Korean won from the ATMs in arrivals if you need cash. Airport exchange rates are decent at Incheon. ₩100,000–200,000 should be enough for your first few days if you have a card for larger purchases. Better yet, get a WOWPASS card for cashless payments.

💡 First-timer checklist: 1) Get SIM/eSIM for data 2) Buy T-money at convenience store 3) Take AREX Express to Seoul Station 4) Transfer to subway to your hotel. Total time: ~75 minutes door to door. Total cost: under ₩30,000 (~$22).

Gimpo Airport (GMP) — Domestic & Some International

If you flew into Gimpo Airport (closer to Seoul, serves some international routes from Japan, China, Taiwan), getting to the city is even easier. Gimpo is connected directly to Seoul's subway system — take Line 5, Line 9, or the AREX All-Stop train. Journey time to central Seoul is 20–35 minutes, and it costs under ₩2,000 with T-money.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a train from Incheon Airport at midnight?

No. The last AREX Express departs around 10:50 PM, and the last All-Stop around 11:30 PM. If you arrive after midnight, your options are taxi, pre-booked private transfer, or the airport hotel (there are transit hotels inside both terminals). The first morning AREX departs around 5:20 AM.

Can I use my T-money card on the AREX Express?

Only on the All-Stop train (₩4,750). The Express train (₩9,500, non-stop, 43 min) requires a reserved seat ticket purchased at the counter or online.

How much luggage can I bring on the AREX?

There's no luggage limit or fee. The AREX has dedicated luggage racks between seats. Even with large suitcases, it's manageable. The airport buses also have luggage compartments underneath.

Should I book a private transfer in advance?

If you're arriving after 10 PM or with more than 2 large suitcases, yes. Otherwise, the AREX or taxi queue works fine without advance booking. Private transfers are most valuable for late-night arrivals and families with small children.
