Where to Stay in Busan — Beach Hotels & Guesthouses (2026)
Busan is Korea's second city and its beach capital — a port city built into hills and valleys between the sea and the mountains. The three main tourist districts each have a different character: Haeundae is the resort strip with Korea's most famous beach and a skyline of high-rise hotels; Gwangalli is younger, more local, with cafes and bars facing the illuminated Gwangan Bridge; Seomyeon is the central commercial hub with no beach but the best subway connections and the widest range of accommodation prices. The KTX from Seoul takes 2–2.5 hours, with Busan Station in the Choryang district.
Which Busan district to base yourself in
Haeundae: The obvious choice for beach-focused trips and families. Hotels here range from international five-star towers on the beachfront to budget guesthouses a few blocks back. The downside is that Haeundae is further from central Busan — Gamcheon Culture Village and Jagalchi Fish Market require a 30–40 minute subway ride. Gwangalli: Better for travelers who want the beach atmosphere without Haeundae's resort prices. The area around Gwangalli Beach and Millak Waterside Park has good mid-range and boutique options and a livelier late-night scene. Seomyeon: Best for transit convenience and budget. Centrally located on Lines 1 and 2, it puts Haeundae, Jagalchi, and Gamcheon all within 20–35 minutes. No beach, but significantly cheaper rates than the coastal districts. Good base for a packed multi-attraction itinerary.
What to know before booking
Busan's peak season is July–August (beach season) and October (Busan International Film Festival, which fills Haeundae hotels weeks in advance). Cherry blossom season in late March–April also drives spikes, particularly around Haeundae. Outside these windows, rates are considerably more reasonable and availability is much easier. Most Busan hotels are a reasonable taxi or subway ride from the KTX station — book accommodation before booking your train if you're traveling during BIFF week.
