## What the Myeongdong and Jung-gu area actually covers Jung-gu is Seoul's historic central district — it contains the old city centre that predates modern Seoul. Myeongdong proper is the shopping and food-street corridor, but the district stretches further: Namsan Mountain (and N Seoul Tower) to the south, Deoksugung Palace and City Hall Plaza to the west, Namdaemun Market to the southwest, and the Cheonggyecheon stream to the north. Everything is within walking distance or one short metro stop. ## N Seoul Tower — cable car or walking N Seoul Tower sits atop Namsan Mountain and is visible from much of central Seoul. The most efficient approach is the cable car from Myeongdong (short queue mornings, long in the evening). The mountain also has walking paths — about 40 minutes from the base. The observation deck charges admission; the plaza and padlock fence are free. Go after sunset for the best city views and illuminated tower. Book tickets on Klook to skip the queue. ## Myeongdong shopping street vs. Namdaemun Market These two markets sit 10 minutes apart on foot but serve different purposes. **Myeongdong** runs along two pedestrian streets packed with Korean cosmetics flagships (Innisfree, Etude, Olive Young), international brands, and street food — best for K-beauty shopping and evening snacks. **Namdaemun Market** is a wholesale and traditional market with 10,000 stalls selling dried fish, clothing, kitchenware, and street food — more authentic, cheaper, and best visited in the morning.1.
