Korea Winter 2026-27: Skiing, Ice Festivals, Snow & Complete Planning Guide
Korea in winter is a different country. The same mountains that glow with autumn foliage in October are buried under pristine snow by December. Ski resorts that hosted the 2018 Olympics, ice fishing festivals where you drill through frozen lakes, steaming hot spring baths surrounded by snow, and Seoul's streets lit up with Christmas markets and year-end lights — Korean winter is dramatic, beautiful, and far more affordable than you'd expect.
Winter is also Korea's low season for international tourism, which means cheaper flights, emptier attractions, and better hotel deals. This guide covers everything from December 2026 through February 2027.

| Month | Seoul | Mountains (Gangwon) | Jeju | What It Means |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| December | -3 to 4°C | -10 to -2°C | 3–8°C | Ski season opens, Christmas markets, first snow |

FAQ
Is winter a good time to visit Korea?
Yes — if you prepare for the cold. Winter Korea has skiing, festivals, hot springs, cheaper prices, and fewer tourists. The cold is real (-10°C in Seoul) but manageable with proper clothing.
Does it snow in Seoul?
Yes, usually several times between December and February. Heavy snow is less common but happens. When it does, Seoul looks magical.
Can I ski as a beginner?
Absolutely. All Korean ski resorts have beginner slopes and offer lessons (many in English). Day trip packages from Seoul include everything — equipment, lift pass, and often a lesson.
Is Jeju worth visiting in winter?
Jeju is Korea's warmest region in winter (3–8°C vs Seoul's -6°C). No snow at sea level, but Hallasan gets snow. It's quieter, cheaper, and still beautiful. Good for people who want milder winter weather.
